Dear Friend,

As a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives District 2, and a lifelong resident of Escambia County, I believe I can represent the district from a unique perspective. I retired from the Florida Highway Patrol in March of 2008 after 31 years of service, the last 17 years as District Commander of the Pensacola District. The District included Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton Counties. In my capacity as the District Commander, I had the opportunity to work closely with numerous local and state officials over the years. Never more so than during the hurricanes, tropical storms, and other similar incidents and natural disasters that required a coordinated effort at the local, state, and even federal level.

Over time, I have observed firsthand the wasteful spending and misappropriation of tax dollars by state government. Additionally, I have seen how our tax dollars are spent and earmarked for projects elsewhere in the state while funding for the much needed projects here in Northwest Florida go unfunded and ignored. I see a need for utilizing our tax dollars with greater efficiency. Size must be reduced and services consolidated when practical. There is a need for more transparency and accountability within state government.

Our state is confronted with economic difficulties and budget shortfalls at all levels and there are no short term solutions. Economic development is crucial during these difficult times. We must be capable of understanding these issues and be willing to adapt as needed in order to keep pace and ensure positive growth and development for Northwest Florida. We must also be flexible enough and be willing to look at new and innovative ideas so that we too can participate with other parts of the state for every available fund.
